This book is from my Type II class. The prompt was to create a book with the transcript of a conversation you have had with someone.

I chose to have a conversation with my sister, Sarah, in order to explore the idea of intentionality within our relationship since we had both left for college that year. Our relationship went from effortless communication living down the hall from one another in our house, to having to choose to pick up the phone and engage in a conversation with one another. I titled it “Intentionality est. 1999”– the year when she was born. The book begins with our individual views of “intentionality” and then leads into the transcript of our conversation.

The format of conversation within the book is meant to emphasize the physical distance between us. My lines are justified to the bottom of the page and her lines are justified to the top. The space in between is filler conversation or side tangents of us reminiscing or joking about something we can relate to from our past.  The intro and ending includes larger text that intentionally meets in the center emphasizing the idea of a relationship and connectedness.

The structure of the book is Japanese stab-bound binding. The inside pages are printed on pink card stock paper and the covers are created with lightweight tan paper. I wanted the binding to be hand-done and the project to look personal and intimate.
